On September 12, 2026, the Geology and Geophysics Club (G&G Club), in collaboration with the SPE PVU Student Chapter and the PVU Alumni Association, successfully organized a technical seminar entitled:
“Sequence Stratigraphy and Its Application in Petroleum Exploration – A Case Study of the.”
The seminar was honored to welcome Mr. Somnath Chakraborty, Senior Geologist at Halliburton, as the guest speaker. With extensive experience in sedimentology, sequence stratigraphy, and play-based exploration, Mr. Chakraborty shared valuable technical knowledge and practical insights gained from his professional experience in the petroleum industry.
The seminar introduced students to the fundamental concepts of sequence stratigraphy, key elements controlling petroleum accumulation, and the important role of sequence stratigraphy in petroleum exploration. Through the case study of the Kutai Basin, participants gained a practical understanding of how geological concepts can be applied to address real-world exploration challenges.
Beyond technical knowledge sharing, the event provided a valuable platform for PVU students to interact with industry professionals, expand their technical perspectives, and gain deeper insights into petroleum exploration practices.
